SAGA Media and Public Relations Committee Meeting
January 04, 2006

Meeting called to order at 7 p.m. by SAGA president Lisa Mitchell.

It was determined that we need a chairperson for this committee. Jeff Mitchell agreed to chair the meetings until a formal vote could be taken at the next general meeting.

Discussion was held concerning advertisement for the SAGA breakfast fundraiser to be held January 15, 2006 at the Centennial House Restaurant. Items discussed were flyers, a sandwich board for the sidewalk in front of the restaurant, and newspaper advertisement. It was agreed to further discuss these items at the fundraising meeting on January 09, 2006 to be held at Country Town Golf Course.

Lisa reported that she was contacted by Jackie Merritt concerning a presentation about the new library at the next general meeting. However, the meeting would have to start at 6 p.m. instead of 7. Lisa will contact all members to see if the meeting time can be changed. More information will be given later.

Jeff reported that we have a new member. Tabatha Seger, who is a manager at the Spring Harbor Mobile Home Committee, has joined SAGA and will be formally recognized at the next general meeting on January 18, 2006. It was agreed that Lisa would compose a welcome letter to new members. She will also design a SAGA letterhead that can be sent electronically to all members which can then be used for all communication from various committees.

It was discussed that all communication and forms should have the SAGA logo and the springportmi.com website listed on them. Jeff will talk to village manager, Rosalie to ask that the website be listed on the village newsletter.

Lisa will arrange a meeting with Megan Burgess concerning presenting the MSU Small Town Initiatives slideshow to various organizations. Parma, Rives Junction, and Clarence township meetings, Lions club meetings, VFW, and Masons were a few mentioned.

Jeff reported that he talked with Springport township supervisor Lance Mitchell. Lance has contacted the MTA (Michigan Townships Association) and said the township could not donate money to a non-profit organization although it could use funds for economic development. Since the streetscape project is an economic development program, we will continue to work on some funding from the township. If deemed necessary, Jeff will contact MDOT for a breakdown cost of the sidewalks in front of the township office and the police department. This cost could possibly then be directed towards the township.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:13 p.m.
