| Springport Area Growth Association The regular meeting of the Springport Area Growth Association was called to order by President Lisa Mitchell at 7:06 pm. Members present included Megan Merrill, Bill Russell, Jeff Mitchell, Tim and Linda Griffith, Larry Denison, Dan Merritt, and Jackie Merritt. Motion by Jackie and seconded by Megan to approve the agenda. Minutes from the August meeting were read. Motion by Bill and seconded by Jeff to accept the secretaries report. Motion carried. The Treasurer’s report discussed that the balance as of September 21, 2011 was $1,713.63; the Savings account balance is $2,378.85; no change in the account since last month. Motion by Megan and seconded by Jeff to approve the treasurer’s report per audit. Motion carried. Under the Events committee, plans for the 2012 Springport 8-80 Days will be the weekend of June 23, 2012. A survey for the 2012 8-80 Days was discussed and to make it both paper form and electronic to distribute and gather information (Megan will make it electronic and email to the board). It was discussed to possibly add more events for kids (the Township Hall has been reserved for 2012 for that purpose) such as a Teen Dance, more contests, etc. Larry Dennison who organized the soccer tournament commented that not everything went as planned for the event, but the support for the event was appreciated; now since it has been started it may kick-off a bit stronger for next year, but looking at the long-term objectives in-mind for the purpose of the event. Under the Fundraising committee, it was reported that the Calendar Photo Contest is complete. Motion by Bill Russell and seconded to purchase 250 calendars to sell and for Jackie to contact the calendar company to find out if we can add a business sponsorship on the pages and to sell them at $10.00 each; to start selling in October. Motion carried. It was discussed that we could possibly have a pancake breakfast following the 3K Race for 8-8- Days to benefit SAGA. Under Media and Public Relations, we have a 8-80 Days Facebook page. Under Townships, the food drive on September 3rd went really well, there was $300 in donations and 6 boxes of food. The Police department will have a liaison officer at the school. Jackson Ag Council reported that over 2,800 people came to the 4 sites for Farmfest; next year the tours will be in the Springport area. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday October 19, 2011 at 7:00 pm at the Springport Township Hall. The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 pm. Respectfully Submitted, Megan Merrill |
