General Meeting Minutes for September 20, 2006

Members and guests present included: Jeff & Lisa Mitchell, Tim Griffith, Megan Merrill, Marci Sabados, Emily Sabados, Abbey Sabados, Sherry Binkowski, Christian Sabados, Nathan Saed, Brenda Heisler, and Tabatha Dake.

Minutes from the August meeting were read and approved with the name correction of Jason Berenstein, not Jack.

SAGA has a balance of $8,004.54 as of 9/20/06. A thank you was read from the Shrine Club for the donation for the 8-80 Days parade as well as one from Mary Ward, Village President for the $11,000 donation for the streetscape project. It was moved by Megan and seconded by Sherry to pay for the paint and thinner for the Depot to Merritt’s.  Motion carried.  It was moved by Megan and seconded by Sherry to pay the bill for postage submitted by Brenda.  Motion carried.  It was moved by Megan and seconded by Sherry to also pay the DBA payment of $20.00.  Motion carried.

Under old business, the elections which were supposed to be held was discussed.  It was moved by Tim and seconded by Megan to postpone the elections until after the 501c3 process is valid.  Motion carried.  Officers will remain as President, Lisa Mitchell, Vice President, Marci Sabados, Secretary, Megan Merrill, Treasurer, Dan Merritt, and Trustees, Bill Russell, Jeremy Adams, and Phil West.

Under new business, a Youth Halloween Party was discussed.  The party is being planned for Saturday October 28th at the Springport VFW Hall from 5:00 – 10:00 pm.  Costumes and participants of all ages are encouraged to participate.  There will be food, prizes, and games.  The Youth committee will be making all arrangements and hanging up posters.  Also under new business, the Depot was discussed.  Items of interest included: a master plan of where it fits into the community or in what form, as a museum, restaurant, etc., possible grant funding from the National Trust (www.nationaltrust.org), and research that needs to be done.  It was decided that EVERYONE can do research and present their findings at the October meeting.

The Events Committee reported that discussion is taking place as to the date for the 2007 8-80 Days and whether or not to move it back to Father’s Day Weekend.  A final date for 2007 will be made at the October meeting.

The Fundraising and Membership Committee reported that the golf outing made $1,000.  Honey and candle sales are still on-going and a can drive collection day is being planned for October or November.  A reminder that the 2006 Christmas Home Tour & Craft Sale as well as New Downtown Celebration will be the weekend of December 2nd.  If you are interested in helping with the event, come to the next SAGA meeting or contact Linda Griffith.  Also, SAGA membership is up to 39 people now.

The Media and PR Committee handed out Top 10 reasons to join SAGA for distribution and reported that a SAGA banner would be displayed at Homecoming.

The next SAGA meeting will be on Wednesday October 18th at 7:00 pm at the village office, BRING A FRIEND!  Meeting adjourned at 8:23 pm.
