The Media and Public Relations committee the Springport sign is almost done and will be put up by the October meeting.  SAGA t-shirts are available and you can order a gray sweatshirt with navy writing or another SAGA t-shirt, orders need to be in by the October 15th meeting to Megan Merrill or Jeff Mitchell. The Townships committee reported that there will be library millage in November and that the recount on the Police for the township passed.

The Youth Outreach did not have anything to report.  It was suggested that to get youth involved in SAGA, to possibly have a scarecrow creation and decorating contest with students.

The Friends of the Library presented the operations millage for the library on the November ballet.  The mileage has to pass county-wide in order to pass, even though Springport previously voted to pass the millage. The average age of libraries within the Jackson District is 63 years, therefore maintenance and upkeep is a necessity.  Circulation, computer use, and patron visits have continued to rise in Jackson County over last three years as well as expansive programming and resources including DVDs, CDs, internet, etc.

Under Old Business, a dedication of the mural and the park in town was discussed.  Bill Russell reported that the Jackson Country Farmfest is September 20th in the Brooklyn area.  He also reported that the Michigan Equine Park is looking at the second part of the Feasibility Study.  There will be a meeting September 23rd at 6:00 pm at the Albion Equine Facility.  The equine facility that is being proposed will be tremendous in size as well as tremendous in economic growth due to the shear volume the facility is proposed to hold.  There will be another meeting in October in Jackson hosted by the Jackson Ag Council.

Under Open Forum, no items were discussed.

The next SAGA meeting will be on Wednesday October 15, 2008 at 7:00 pm at the Springport Township Hall.  Meeting adjourned at 8:23 pm.

Respectfully Submitted,
Megan Merrill
SAGA Secretary
