General Meeting Minutes for August 18, 2010

The meeting was called to order by Lisa Mitchell at 7:04 pm at the Springport Township Hall.  Members and guests present included: Megan & Edward Merrill, Linda & Tim Griffith, Chuck Arntz, Pastor Paul Briggs, Jeff Mitchell, and Bill Russell.
Motion by Bill Russell and seconded by Megan to approve the agenda.  Motion carried.
Motion by Jeff to approve the minutes as read, seconded by Jackie.  Motion carried.
The Treasurer’s Report consisted of a balance of $1,782.07 and an income & expense summary sheet from 8-80 Days.  Motion by Bill and seconded by Jeff to accept the treasurer’s report per audit.  Motion carried. 
Under committee reports, the Events committee discussed that an idea for 8-80 Days next year would be a restaurant placemat flyer.  Another idea was to get someone to do caricatures.  SAGA is looking at organizing 8-80 Days by like-areas; so if you want to sell crafts or food you contact the Vendor chair, soccer tournament; contact the tournament chair, etc. Edward wants to help the Police Chief organize a softball tournament.
Vendors & Car Show – Contact Bill Russell (will have 2 passes for each pre-registered car to the races and will have the first 100 cars do 2 laps at the speedway track)

The Fundraising/Membership Committee discussed our interest with the VFW in doing another breakfast. It was discussed that we did the Christmas gift-wrapping fundraiser last year and would like to do that again this year.  It was discussed that SAGA donate a basket in the elementary Fall Festival this year (Jackie will look into it this year).  It was also discussed that the VFW Ladies Auxiliary is organizing a back-to-school backpack drive again this year & Lisa is taking any donations of back-packs, supplies or money at the bank. 
The Media and Public Relations Committee discussed ordering pencils again this year along with candy for Halloween.  Jackie put in a thank-you in the paper from 8-80 Days & some good community public relations.  The bike give-away was done at the Mid-Michigan Speedway.
The Townships Committee reported that the Police Department is still working on moving into the Village office with an entrance in the back.  A Neighborhood watch meeting is scheduled for Sept. 1st and a Police Committee meeting on Sept. 2nd, both will be at 7:00 pm at the Springport Township Hall.  The Jackson County Family Farmfest will be on Saturday September 18, 2010 with Free public site tours of Thorne’s Sheep Farm, Gwinn’s Tree Farm, Na-Lar Dairy Farm, and Hanover Horton Historical Society. 
Under Old Business, there were no items to report. Under New Business, there were no items to report.
Under Open Forum, it was discussed that we need more Christmas Wreaths.  It was moved by Jeff and seconded by Bill to purchase one more Christmas Wreath. Motion carried.  Motion by Jackie and seconded to purchase lights for the wreaths.  Motion carried.  Motion by Lisa and seconded to carryout Linda’s Christmas plan.  Motion carried.  It was also discussed that we have $1,500 budgeted for street décor.  It was discussed that the library is changing their hours by being later on Mondays & Wednesdays and open on Saturdays. (Monday 1-6pm, Closed Tues & Thur., Wed. 10am-7pm, Friday 1-6pm, and Sat. 10am – 2pm.
The next SAGA meeting will be Wednesday September 15, 2010 at 7:00 pm at the Springport Township Hall.  Meeting adjourned at 8:08 pm.
