The regular meeting of the Springport Area Growth Association was called to order by President Lisa Mitchell at 7:03 pm.  Members present included Megan Merrill, Bill Russell, Jeff Mitchell, and Jackie Merritt, and Dan Merritt.

Motion by Bill and seconded by Megan to approve the agenda.  Minutes from the July meeting were read.  Motion by Bill and seconded by Jeff to accept the secretaries report.  Motion carried.

The Treasurer’s report discussed that the balance as of August 17, 2011 was $1,713.63; the Savings account balance is $2,378.85; the CD has a balance of $6,118.96.  Motion by Bill and seconded by Jeff that when the CD matures to put the money into the savings account; motion carried.  Motion by Megan and seconded by Jeff to approve the treasurer’s report per audit.  Motion carried.

Under the Events committee, plans for the 2012 Springport 8-80 Days be the weekend of June 23, 2012.  It was discussed to move all of the craft vendors onto Main Street along the curb on only 1 side of the street to along events like frog jumping and pedal pulls on the other side since the street is closed from 8 am – 5 pm (changing times is contingent on the number of hours the road can be closed).   The financial report for 8-80 Days showed revenue of $4,531.00 with expenses of $4,067.88; motion to accept this report, motion carried.  A survey was discussed to be done with a list of the 8-80 days events to see what the most popular events and formulate priorities (this will be done by Bill).   It was discussed to have a SAGA facebook page for public relations and promotion.

Under the Fundraising committee, it was reported that the Calendar Photo Contest is still looking for submissions; submit photos as least 1600 x 1200 without people in them to merrittja@myjdl.com by September (photos do not have to be current).  Keep in mind new fundraisers like a euchre tournament, pancake supper in the township hall or a soup & sandwich dinner. 

Under Media and Public Relations and under Townships, the Police Department is doing a food drive for the Springport Food Pantry who is in desperate need of food right now on Sat. September 3rd from 9:00 am - noon at the farm stand downtown.   

The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday September 21, 2011 at 7:00 pm at the Springport Township Hall. Neighborhood Watch meeting is September 7, 2011 at 7:00 pm at the Springport Township Hall.  Jackson County Farmfest Tours will be on September 17, 2011.  The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 pm.
