General Meeting Minutes August 17, 2005

The meeting room was called to order at 7:08 pm by President Lisa Mitchell. Members present included, Marci Sabados, Dan Merritee, Jackie Merritt, Brenda Heisler, Jeff Mitchell, Pam Wilson, Linda Griffith, Sherry Binkowski, Rosi Terpening, Tim Schmidt, Doug Patterson, and Megan Burgess.

Minutes from the July 20th and August 3rd meetings were submitted to the Signal, and read at the meeting.

Treasurer, Dan Merritt reported a balance of $3,118.99 as of August 17th. The increase is due to donations from the canisters, Police Department, Mary Kay party, Sidewalk Sale at 8-80 Days, golf outing, and a personal donation from Linda Griffith.

Jeff Mitchell represented SAGA at the Fire department’s meeting in August we are pleased to accept a $250 donation.

The fundraising and membership committees reported that they are looking at another $50 donation for the Mary Kay party and looking into selling “My Precious Kid”, a safety identification kit for children. They are also looking into participating in a craft show. Membership is SAGA has reached 28, and if you are interested in joining, you can join by donating either time, ideas, or of course, money.

The Boy Scouts would like to do a community car wash in which half of the money they raise will be donated to SAGA and the other half will say with their group. A date and location will be announced at a later time.

The middle school bond proposal meeting is August 18th at 7:00 pm at the Middle School Cafeteria. SAGA members are encouraged to attend and show their support for improving our middle school.

Springport has a Garden Club!!! Currently, there are 6 members in the club and you can contact Brenda Heisler if you are interested in joining. The club met last Tuesday and will be available to maintain the plants that may be added to the streetscape.

The Springport Community Showcase will be held on September 28th from 5:00-8:00 pm at the high school. The purpose of the event is to invite residents and parents to explore and learn all of the exciting opportunities we have to offer in our school and community. If your business or organization would like to be an exhibitor at the showcase, please contact me, (Megan Burgess) at 517-857-3475 or email burgess@scnc.sps.k12.mi.us.

Doug Patterson from the Spring Harbor Community reported that they have been doing extensive work to clean up the area and get rid of residents not abiding by the parks rules. The park is moving in the right direction to becoming a valuable asset in the community, providing affordable living for families. They will have a newsletter available in the near future highlighting a rewards program for residents who have improved their lots. They are also looking into adding a club house in the spring. A manager is available every day on site for more information.

The next SAGA meeting is on Wednesday September 14th at 7:00 pm with the MSU Extension group at the TOWNSHIP OFFICE. Meeting adjourned at 8:00 pm.
