| Springport Area Growth Association The meeting was called to order by President Lisa Mitchell at 7:05 pm at the Springport Township Hall. Members and guests present included: Tim and Linda Griffith, Megan Merrill, Sherry Binkowski, Brenda and Jerry Heisler, Dave and Theresa Lindsey, Dan and Jackie Merritt. Minutes from the May meeting were not available. Motion by Dan and seconded by Megan to table the 6/20/07. SAGA has a balance of $9,830.00 as of 6/20/07. Motion by Megan and seconded by Dave to accept the treasurer’s report. Motion carried. Motion by Dan and seconded by Sherry to move the checking account to Homestead Bank. Motion carried. Jackie Merritt presented information about the Springport Library Expansion. Show your support for the library and attend the next SAGA meeting in July; the director of the Jackson District Library will be here to talk about the library expansion which will be up for a millage vote on August 7, 2007. Under old business our 501(c)3 case will be reopened and more information should be presented at the next meeting. The Events Committee reported that 8-80 Days last weekend went well. There were more people this year who participated in the belt-sander races and frog contests. Thank you to everyone who donated time or money to make it happen. It was moved by Megan and seconded by Dave to have the 2008 8-80 Days June 13, 14, and 15 (Father’s Day Weekend). Motion carried. Thank you to Hastay’s Greenhouse for donating the flowers downtown as well as Brenda and Jerry Heisler for keeping the plants watered as well as the village and the Hotel Tavern for the pots. The Fundraising and Membership Committee reported that membership is down by 1 member. An idea was presented to send a monthly/bimonthly newsletter, post card, or email to keep members up to date about SAGA events who may not be able to attend the meetings. The crafting event that happened in at the township hall brought in $120.00. The SAGA golf tournament at Country Town Golf Course on June 23rd and we are still looking to have more teams. Ben Keeler is the 2007 winner of the Spotlight on Springport this year, it was discussed to have it go later in the afternoon and to open it up to community buildings/entities. The Media and Public Relations Committee reported that the SAGA sign is up next to the FFA Farm Stand at the recycling lot next to Merritt’s Hardware. Under open forum, it was mentioned to congratulate the new owners of the Trading Post, Cindy Weil (former manager of Main Street Pizza). The next SAGA meeting will be on Wednesday July 18th at 7:00 pm at the township hall. Meeting adjourned at 8:00 pm. Respectfully Submitted, |
