Members present included, Dan Merritt, Brenda Heisler, Jerry Heisler, Gordon Webb, Jeff Mitchell, Casey Tilford, Tressa Hodges, Chris Rhodea, Bill Russell, Kathy Heisler, Jaylyn Vickory, Sherry Binkowski, Charlene, and Megan Burgess.

Minutes from the May 18th meeting were submitted in the Signal, passed out at the meeting and read.

Treasurer Dan Merritt reported that there is $82.00 from fundraising and the rest will follow. Dan reminded all SAGA members to keep track of their house and submit them at the meetings. You will need to write down only the number of hours worked each week on SAGA business and the tasks you worked on. SAGA is adding another person to the account, co-chair Lisa Mitchell so that two signatures are on the account.

The media and public relations committee reported that Lisa created a proto-type for a brochure and we are suggesting having businesses pay $10 each to be printed on the brochure and that should cover the cost to produce them. More “New Downtown” posters have been created and need to be displayed at businesses, suggested locations include Rocky’s Campground, C-Store, Trading Post, churches, and Felpausch in Albion. Additional donation cans are also available for distribution. A list of can locations will be placed on the web site.

The fundraising/membership committee reported that twelve canisters were made and they are looking at have a golf outing to raise money for SAGA. They are also looking at seeking a donation from the Saturday and Sunday golf scrambles pool at Country Town Golf Course. It was also reported that letters and checks may be submitted to SAGA, attn. Rosi Terpening, PO Box 128, Springport, MI 49284.

The initiatives committee was discussed. The purpose of this committee is to seek new ideas; items like the Streetscape and Depot Restoration are examples of initiatives committee work. We are currently looking for someone to head up the committee. It was discussed to open up the Depot for 8-80 Days, but in order to do so liability insurance must be provided, Rosi is looking into this.

We are still in need of volunteers to go to Parma, Clarence, Rives and Tompkins Township meetings as a representative of SAGA.

The youth reach committee is seeking volunteers and leadership and will be more active in the fall when students are back in school.

8-80 Days schedule and flyers have been posted to the web site at http://www.springportmi.com/events880days.htm along with the schedule and flyers for the Cruise to the Races at http://www.springportmi.com/eventscruise.htm

Rosi and the SAGA co-chairs Lisa and Marcie are working with the lawyer to develop the bylaws and incorporation status. We are looking at having elections in the near future to secure board members.

An item discussed during the open forum was the idea of have a Community Showcase in the High School gym in the fall. I will check into dates to do a program in conjunction to a tentative open house for the high school teachers. Chris Rhodea also volunteered to help with the venture. The Showcase would involve several entities on display for residents and community members to visit with.

Lastly, the development of a Downtown Development Authority was discussed and Rosi is looking into more information on this matter.

The next SAGA meeting is on Wednesday July 20th at 7:00 pm at the Village office. Media and public relations will be on Wednesday July 6th at 7:00 pm at the Village office and the fundraising committee meeting will be on Monday July 11th at 7:00pm at Country Town Golf Course. Meeting adjourned at 8:10pm.

Respectfully Submitted,
