General Meeting Minutes for May 20, 2009

The meeting was called to order by Lisa Mitchell at 7:04 pm at the Springport Township Hall.  Members and guests present included: Megan Merrill, Jeff Mitchell, Jackie and Dan Merritt, Bill Russell, Samantha Thacker, Tim and Linda Griffith, Sarah Kaminski,and Sherry Binkowski.

Motion by Lisa and seconded by Bill to approve the agenda.  Motion carried.

Motion by Lisa to approve the minutes as read, seconded by Jeff.  Motion carried.

Samantha Thacker, Treasurer reported that SAGA has a balance of $1,710.95 as of 5/20/09.  Income consisted of t-shirt sales, book sales, donations, and spotlight; while expenses included stamps and ink.  Motion by Megan and seconded by Bill to accept the treasurer’s report per audit.  Motion carried. 

Under committee reports, the Events committee 2009 8-80 Days for June 19, 20, 21, 2009 planning was discussed.  Items included:

  • Motion to include a helium tank for SAGA balloons for 8-80 Days was made by Lisa and seconded by Bill.  Motion carried.
  • A quilt donated by Bev Sims will be raffled off at $1.00/ticket or 6 for $5.00 to benefit SAGA and the Springport Cemetery.
  • Hats, shirts, and miscellaneous SAGA items will be for sale at the Township Hall during 8-80 Days.
  • Dan Merritt is looking for local art to display in the Merritt's Hardware windows during 8-80 Days.
  • SAGA is looking for anyone interested in participating in the 2009 8-80 Days Parade on Sat. June 20th, line-up will be at 11:00 am at the Springport High School parking lot and the parade will begin at noon. (Contact Steve Keeler, 517-857-3366)
  • Awesome 3K Run is looking for anyone to sponsor t-shirts for either $50 or $100 (sponsors will be advertised on the back of the t-shirts respectfully).  The Awesome 3K Run is intended to be free for anyone to participate and is named in celebration of the life of Mannes Todd Overweg and any donations from runners will go to benefit Springport GirlsQuest (a program that builds confidence in young girls). Sponsors can contact Megan Merrill at megan.merrill@springportschools.net or (517) 857-3475 by June 1st to sponsor (please make your checks out to SAGA).
  • SAGA is seeking local bands who may want to play during 8-80 Days on Friday June 19th from 7:30 - 9pm and Saturday June 20th from 1:00 - 5:00 pm.  Please contact Mr. Arntz at (517) 857-3698 if you are interested.

The Fundraising/Membership committee reported that we are still interested in working with Springport Football on a Poker tournament license.

The Media and Public Relations committee reported that the Springport business brochure is being updated in cooperation with the DDA.  Approximately 5,000 brochures will be printed for distribution and the first 50 businesses to respond in the Springport area can pay $10 to get their phone number listed; please contact Lisa Mitchell at Homestead Bank for more information; the schedule will consist of letters sent out July 1st with responses by August 1st to "make it in" the brochure.

The Townships Committee reported that STEP is working on their formal proposal for the equine park.  It was also highlighted that all county fair premiums have been cut from the state budget this year.
 
Under Old Business, SAGA would like to send their appreciation to Hastay's Greenhouse for the wave petunas and pots and to John Hammond for donating compost for the flower pots downtown as well as Linda Griffith for putting all this together again this year!

Under New Business, motion to spend $60 on 5 yards of compost for the trees downtown was made by Lisa and seconded by Bill.  Motion carried.

Under Open Forum, no items discussed.

The next SAGA meeting will be Wednesday June 17, 2009 at 7:00 pm at the Springport Township Hall.  Meeting adjourned at 8:24 pm.
