| Springport Area Growth Association The regular meeting of the Springport Area Growth Association was called to order by President Lisa Mitchell at 7:08 pm. Members present included Megan Merrill, Bill Russell, Jeff Mitchell, Chuck Harmon, Dustin Krasny, Linda Griffith and Jackie Merritt. Motion by Bill and seconded by Jackie to approve the agenda. Minutes from the April meeting were read. Motion by Bill and seconded by Jackie to accept the secretaries report. Motion carried. No Treasurer’s report was given, it will be given at the June meeting. Under the Events committee, plans for the 2011 8-80 Days were discussed with an overview of the proposed agenda, which is available online at www.springportmi.com. Items included discussion about the softball and soccer tournaments, free movie downtown on the side of the bank for village office, and Pinewood Derby. Motion by Megan and seconded by Jackie that SAGA sponsor the People’s Choice trophy for the Car Rally. Motion carried. Under the Fundraising committee, it was reported that ideas for fundraisers are needed in the future. The Calendar Photo Contest is still looking for submissions yet; submit photos as least 1600 x 1200 without people in them to merrittja@myjdl.com. Under Media and Public Relations, a representative from Congressman Tim Walberg’s office was present and discussed current budget and education concerns. Under Townships, The Springport Motor Speedway is open and are organizing several community events including bringing in food for the Springport Food Pantry in as admission to the races. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday June 15th at 7:00 pm at the Springport Township Hall. Neighborhood Watch meeting is June 1st at 7:00 p at the Springport Township Hall.
