| Springport Area Growth Association The meeting was called to order by President Lisa Mitchell at 7:07 pm. Members and guests present included: Marci Sabados, Tim & Linda Griffith, Megan Burgess, Jackie Merritt, Dan Merritt, Brenda Heisler, Sherry Binkowski, Jeff Mitchell, Nicki & Greg Sorter, Kyle and Tabitha Dake, and Brian Kopulos. Minutes from the March meeting were read and approved. The treasurer report was approved. SAGA has a balance of $17,929.90 as of April 19th. The 501c3 application was mailed out this week. Under old business, Homestead Bank has submitted public notice of its intent to open a branch in Springport. The bank will be the safest in the country, as it will be housed at the police station. Brian Kopulos, Springport High School sophomore in Mrs. Ethridge’s Skills for Action class, presented information about the recycling bins in Springport. Items such as clean food cans, clean glass jars, clean plastic bottles, newspapers, mixed office paper, and cardboard is accepted. Items such as aerosol cans, widow pane glass, trays, wrappers, toys, buckets, pails, crates, or hazardous waste (oil, antifreeze, pesticides), and junk mail cannot be recycled. Brian and his group are in charge of emptying the recycle paper bins in all high school and elementary school classrooms. Brian’s group also put forth all of the effort to get the recycling bins here, so let’s use them!!!! A motion was made by Megan Burgess and seconded by Brenda Heisler to accept the Garden Club as a part of SAGA. Items discussed included that this way we will be able to utilize garden club activities for future grant projects. Motion carried. The Fundraising and Membership Committee reported that Tim Schmidt and the Boy Scouts will have a Car Wash fundraiser on May 13th at the funeral home parking lot. The Avon fundraiser will be done tonight, thank you to CJ Halsey for all of your help! Bring your pop cans to SAGA meetings, we are still collecting them and SAGA is still selling honey! On Friday, there will be a SAGA Celebration at Country Town Golf Course to celebrate our accomplishments. The celebration will begin at 6:00 pm and hot dogs and chips will be served. Motion by Jeff Mitchell and seconded by Dan Merritt to spend $5,000 on fireworks during 8-80 Days. Motion carried. The Media and Public Relations Committee reported from their meeting,
that there will be a Fireworks Display this year at 8-80 Days (as mentioned
above). Donation cans will be placed around town to collect money. The
committee also introduced the new owners of the Spring Harbor Community,
Nicki & Greg Sorter, who have volunteered to sponsor the web site
for 2007-2008. There will be an Open House for the Springport Library on May 8th from 3:00 – 5:00 pm. The Open House will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the library. An open house for the Springport Township Police will be on June 22nd. The Springport High School Spartan Sparkle community clean-up where all students in the high school do cleaning projects in the community from 11:30 – 1:45 on May 19th.
