| Springport Area Growth Association The meeting was called to order by President Lisa Mitchell at 7:07 pm at the Springport Township Hall. Members and guests present included: Tim and Linda Griffith, Megan Merrill, Sherry Binkowski, Brenda Heisler, Dave and Theresa Lindsey, Dan and Jackie Merritt, Tabitha Dake, Judy Nolan, and guests. Minutes from the February meeting were approved. SAGA has a balance $8,068.82 as of 3/21/07. It was moved by Megan and seconded by Sherry to refer the welcome signs at the end of the village limits to a committee. Jackie and Dan Merritt and Tim and Linda Griffith volunteered to serve on the committee and look into the attributes (masonry, etc.) and legal ramifications of the project. Motion carried. The Events Committee presented an 8-80 Days budget and it was suggested that they look into running a “jail” where people pay to “arrest” someone and the “arrested” pay to get out as a fundraiser. Since this will take someone to run the event, the committee will look into it. The possibility of having the FFA run a tractor and hay wagon from the school grounds to downtown to accommodate people was also discussed. The Fundraising and Membership Committee reported that the Quilt show went awesome with 103 quilts displayed and they made $331.50. Visitors came from all over… Big thank you to Sherry for organizing the event. Sherry is also working on concluding the Avon Fundraiser. The committee also reported that the Beach Party had a lot of games, food, and donations but lacked in attendance this year. A reminder that SAGA is serving a Palm Sunday Breakfast at the Centennial House on April 1st from 7am – 12pm and is looking for more workers (bussers, waiters/waitresses). It was moved by Lisa and seconded by Judy to have all of the proceeds from the breakfast go towards the new welcome signs for Springport. Motion carried. A reminder that the Garden Club starts on April 10th (2nd Tuesday of the month) at 7:00 pm at Country Town Golf Course with the theme “Buying your plants”. No reports were given by the Media and Public Relations Committee, Youth Outreach Committee, and from Townships. Under Open Forum, it was discussed that the college is getting rid of some bicycle racks and suggested that the village or DDA look into that for the downtown. The next SAGA meeting will be on Wednesday April 18th at 7:00 pm at the township hall. Meeting adjourned at 8:01 pm. Respectfully Submitted, |
