| Springport Area Growth Association The meeting was called to order by Lisa Mitchell at 7:15 pm at the Springport Township Hall. Members and guests present included: Tim and Linda Griffith, Megan and Edward Merrill, Bill Russell, Jeff Mitchell, Dave and Theresa Lindsey, and Dan and Jackie Merritt. Motion by Bill Russell and seconded by Dan Merritt to approve the agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Bill and seconded by Jeff to approve the minutes as read. Motion carried. SAGA has a balance of $1,526.08 as of 3/19/08. The Palm Sunday Breakfast brought in $955.68. Motion by Bill and seconded by Megan to accept the treasurer’s report per audit. Motion carried. “Good preparation is no substitution for dumb luck.” Dan Merritt Under committee reports, the Events committee will be planning 8-80 Days on Wednesday April 9th at 7pm in the Springport Library. Jackie has prepared signs about the meeting. The 8-80 Days solicitation letter will need to be sent within the next month. It was suggested to come up with a more “complete” list of donors which will be done at the April 9th 8-80 Days meeting. The Quilt Show will be April 5th at the Springport United Methodist Church from 10:00am – 3:00 pm. The Fundraising/Membership committee reported that the poker tournament will be on Saturday April 12th at Shooter’s with registration at 12:00pm and tournament starts at 1:00pm. The next tournament will be the Saturday of 8-80 Days at Shooter’s as well. The Palm Sunday Breakfast went great, thank-you to the Centennial House for allowing us to do the fundraiser. It was suggested to put membership and web site information on each table. The fundraiser/membership committee will be left to the group as a whole with the resignation of Brenda Heisler. The Media and Public Relations committee discussed creating SAGA t-shirts for fundraising events and promotion. Jackie has created membership posters to hang up. It was suggested to announce events on Springport and Albion community cable channels. The Townships committee representative reported that there is a police committee March 24th at 7:00 pm at the Springport Township Hall. The Youth Outreach did not have anything to report. Under Old Business, Tim has created a model of the welcome signs for Springport. He has also researched approximate costs for the signs at $600.00 per sign which would include concrete work. Motion by Dan Merritt and seconded by Jeff Mitchell to have a budget of $750 for the welcome sign. Motion carried. Spring Harbor is the 2008 sponsor of the web site. Under New Business, an idea of a silent auction was discussed for 8-80 Days. It was also discussed that ideas have been brought up to help with the Gazebo and table at Sykes Park. Under Open Forum, Spartan Sparkle will be held on May 9th, please let me know if you have any projects you need done, we will be working in the morning this year. Sherry Binkowski is collecting Spartan UPC labels, please bring them in to her. It was also discussed to get more high schools involved with ideas for Springport and community service.
