General Meeting Minutes for November 19, 2008

The meeting was called to order by Lisa Mitchell at 7:008 pm at the Springport Township Hall.  Members and guests present included: Megan Merrill, Jeff Mitchell, Dan and Jackie Merritt, Bill Russell, Tim and Linda Griffith, Gordon Webb, Samantha Thacker, and guest Blair Kacos..

Motion by Bill to approve the agenda, seconded by Megan.  Motion carried.

Motion by Bill to approval the minutes as read, seconded by Dan.  Motion carried.

SAGA has a balance of $605.79 as of 11/19/08 with $100 in savings and $8,000.00 in a CD.  Items were spent on donations, wreaths, and sign. Motion by Bill Russell and seconded by Jeff to accept the treasurer’s report per audit.  Motion carried. 

Under committee reports, the Events committee reported that the 2009 8-80 Days planning meeting will be January 21st at 7:00 pm at the Springport Township Hall, this is also the date of the Annual SAGA meeting.

The Fundraising/Membership committee reported that the Poker tournament in October was a “bust” because it was the day of the Michigan/Michigan State game.  Bill will be contacting sports boosters to check into selling the other license.  Lisa presented an idea to host a scrapbooking party, a “crop” at the Township Hall for a fundraiser, she plans to present more information at the January meeting.  SAGA is still planning to do the Palm Sunday breakfast for a spring fundraiser.

The Media and Public Relations committee reported that a thank you from the FFA for sponsoring Harvestfest and from Student Council for sponsoring fireworks.  Gordon Webb reported that working together with the DDA for public relations would meet both missions, such as partnering on a professional brochure for the community. The next DDA meeting is on February 17th at 7:30 pm at the Village Office.  The DDA is also looking to recruit some new members, please contact Gordon Webb (Village President).  The DDA will also be donating bike racks for downtown.

A reminder to SAGA members and anyone else, the Wreath Making Party for the downtown will be on Sunday November 30th at 2:00 pm at Linda Griffith’s house in town (3rd house from the C-Store).

The Townships Committee reported that the horse park is a real possibility of being in our area.  The Jackson Ag Council has been tracking the progress of the feasibility study of the equine facility. Bill Russell reported that a possible future destination for the large-scale horse park in Springport Township, and more information will be presented at the Springport Township Board meeting.  Individuals have been appointed to the police advisory committee with the Springport Township. Be advised that the Jackson County Road Commission issued a report that funding is down for snow removal, priorities have been set for the winter season.

The Youth Outreach committee will be led by Samantha.

Under Old Business, the Springport sign is up and discussed that it needs to be moved.  Thank you to Lance Olsen for helping to put the sign up.

Under New Business no items were discussed.

Under Open Forum, Linda discussed needed 4 boxes of 100 lights to put them on the trees at the Sykes Park.  It was moved by Megan and seconded by Jeff to purchase lights (up to $50).  Motion carried.  Jackie Merritt reported that the Springport Drama Club is doing a play the weekend of Dec. 12 (7 pm), 13 (7pm), 14 (2 pm) called A Window for Murder on the Springport High School Stage.  Tickets are available at the door.  Homestead Bank presented that they are always willing to support community events for those inquiring. SAGA wants to help with school fundraising or events, come to a meeting to discuss opportunities.

The next SAGA meeting will be the Annual Meeting on Wednesday January 21, 2008 at 7:00 pm at the Springport Township Hall.  Meeting adjourned at 8:16 pm.
