| At a regular meeting of the Township Board for the
Township of Springport, Jackson County, Michigan, held on the 12th
day of August, 2002, at 7:00 p.m. the following Ordinance was heard
and passed;
THE TOWNSHIP OF SPRINGPORT ORDAINS:
SECTION 1. POLICE DEPARTMENT
The Springport Township Police Department is hereby established.
SECTION 2. HIRING
The Township Board is hereby authorized to hire by resolution
any person or persons to serve as a officer of the Springport
Township Police Department for such term or terms as may be designated
in said resolution and for such compensation as the Board may
determine. The Board may further, by resolution, remove any person
from said office, in the discretion of the Board.
SECTION 3. AUTHORITY
The Springport Township Police Department personnel is hereby
authorized to enforce all existing laws and will be involved in
Community Policing activities.
SECTION 4. CONTINGENCY
Ordinance to establish a Springport Township Police Department
will be contingent upon the passage of the millage proposal.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Resolution No. 12-02, “An
Ordinance to Create a Township Police Department”, be adopted.
The foregoing resolution offered by Board Member Steve Rybicki
and supported by Board Member Sally Bradford.
Upon roll call vote, the following voted “aye”; Steve
Rybicki, Bonnie Minier, Jack Travioli, Sally Bradford, and Gaylord
Lincoln.
“Nay”; None.
The Supervisor declared the resolution adopted.
